Telecom Knowledge Training Overview

India’s telecommunication network is the second largest in the world by number of telephone users (both fixed and mobile phone) with 1179.49 million subscribers as on 31 January 2021. Major sectors of the Indian telecommunication industry are telephone, internet, and television broadcast industry. India has the world’s second-largest Internet user-base with 747.41 million broadband internet subscribers in the country. Indian telecom industry underwent a high pace of market liberalisation and growth since the 1990s and now has become the world’s most competitive and one of the fastest growing telecom markets. The government of India launched the National Broadband Mission with an aim to provide Broadband access to all villages by 2022.

Opportunities

India’s telecom sector currently employs nearly four million workers in various roles and different fields in telecom sector. Roles include site technician, drive test engineer, rf engineers, survey engineers, engineers involved in various type of installation activities, supervisors, safety officers, mux installation, technical support services, operations and maintenance, optical fibre, etc.

Manpower Requirement

Telecom sector will need over 47 lakh additional skilled manpower by 2021-22 over and above the present strength of around 40 lakhs, as per various industry estimates and assessment. And the trained manpower requirement is increasing with 5G penetration from urban to rural areas.
